Pool Handrail Installation

We measure, fabricate, and install swimming pool handrails across Boca Raton and South Florida — the grab rail you hold getting in and out of the water, at the steps, the deck edge, or a beach entry. Most of our work is retrofits on pools that are already built: we core-drill the anchors into your existing deck, pavers, or concrete and set them in epoxy, so the rail is solid on day one and still solid three summers later. Figure-4, loop, and custom shapes, always in 316 marine-grade stainless — around a pool it is the hardware grade that decides how long a rail lasts, not the shape of it.

Pool Railing & Handrail Styles We Install

Figure-4 (3-Bend) Handrails

The most common pool handrail — two posts bent into a figure-4 shape, core-drilled into the deck beside your pool steps. Marine-grade stainless with a secure grip getting in and out of the water.

Loop (4-Bend) Handrails

A rounded loop rail that follows the steps down into the water — easier to reach and a steadier hold for anyone who needs extra support entering the pool.

Custom & Deck-Mounted Rails

Single-post rails, raised-deck rails, and fully custom bends for unusual step layouts, spas, and beach-entry pools — fabricated to fit your exact pool.

Stainless Steel Built for Salt & Chlorine

Pool chemistry is brutal on metal. Chlorine, salt systems, and constant splash pit cheap stainless within a couple of seasons — which is why every Safe Railing pool rail is 316 marine-grade stainless steel, the grade made for direct pool and coastal exposure. The same salt air that drives material choice across all coastal railings makes hardware grade the single biggest factor in how long a pool handrail lasts. We core-drill the anchors into your deck, pavers, or concrete and set them in two-part epoxy so the rail stays rock-solid with no wobble, then finish the base with clean escutcheon covers. Whether it’s a fresh install or a replacement for a loose, corroded old rail, every handrail is measured on-site and fabricated to your pool’s exact step and deck layout.

Pool Railings vs Pool Fences: What’s the Difference?

These two get mixed up constantly, so here’s the plain version. A pool fence is a safety barrier that surrounds the pool to keep children and pets away from the water — a legal requirement in Florida, with rules on height and self-latching gates. A pool railing (or handrail) is the grab rail you hold getting in and out at the steps or deck edge — it’s about support and safe footing, not keeping anyone out. Many homes need both. If what you need is the barrier, see our glass pool fence page; if you need the grab rail at the steps, you’re in the right place.

Where Pool Railings & Handrails Go

The classic spot — a figure-4 or loop rail beside the steps or shallow-end entry of an in-ground pool, giving a secure hold getting in and out of the water.

Raised deck edges, spa steps, and gradual beach-entry pools, where a custom-bent rail provides support exactly where the footing changes.

Community pools, condos, and clubhouses where handrails see heavy use and must hold up to constant chlorine and salt — we install and replace commercial-grade stainless rails to match

Finishes, Hardware & Options

Every rail is 316 marine-grade stainless — the alloy specified for pools and coastal exposure. It resists the pitting and rust that attack cheaper 304 stainless once chlorine and salt air go to work, which is the single biggest factor in how a pool handrail looks and holds up after a few seasons.

Mirror-polished stainless is the classic look; powder-coating adds color, including matte black, to match modern decks and dark-framed glass. Both are built on the same 316 base, so the finish is about style — the corrosion resistance stays the same. An outdoor stainless steel railing is judged on the base metal, not on the coating over it.

A wobbly rail is almost always a bad anchor. We core-drill into the deck, pavers, or bond beam, drop in the anchor sockets, and set them in two-part epoxy — so the rail is solid from day one and lifts out cleanly if the pool is ever resurfaced.

Every rail is measured on-site — step location, deck height, and reach — and fabricated to your pool’s exact layout, so the grip lands where you actually need it.

What Installing a Pool Handrail Actually Involves

On most pools it is a half-day job, and almost none of that time goes on the rail itself. We come out and measure first — where the steps land, how high the deck sits, how far you reach for the grip. A rail that suits your neighbour’s pool is usually wrong for yours by a few inches, and a few inches is the difference between a rail you grab and one you have to reach for.

The rail is then bent and polished to those measurements. On install day we core-drill the anchor sockets into the deck, pavers, or bond beam, vacuum the dust out of the holes, and set the sockets in two-part epoxy. The epoxy wants a few hours before anyone puts weight on it, so we usually ask you to stay off the rail until the next morning.

Nothing gets rebuilt and nothing gets torn up. The sockets sit flush with the deck, escutcheon covers hide the cut, and if the pool is ever resurfaced the rail lifts straight out and drops back in afterwards.

When a Stock Bend Will Not Fit

Most pool handrails are a standard shape: a three-bend rail that follows a typical set of pool steps, made in a handful of stock widths. It fits most pools, because most pools were built to the same step pattern. When yours was not, the stock rail either stands proud of the step or stops short of the water line, and neither is something worth living with for the next twenty years.

Custom pool handrails get bent to the geometry you actually have: a beach entry with a long shallow slope, a spa step at a different rise, a corner entry, a bench that interrupts the run. We template the steps and bend to that template. It costs a day or two more in the shop and makes no difference at all on install day.

The deck side works the same way. Custom pool railings around a raised spa or a split-level deck follow the line of the coping instead of cutting straight across it — which is usually the whole reason somebody built the raised deck. The extra cost sits in the bending, not in the material.

Pool Railing & Handrail FAQ

Every rail is 316 marine-grade stainless steel — the grade specified for pools and coastal locations. It resists the chlorine, salt, and UV that pit and rust lower grades, so the rail stays smooth and solid for years. Polished and powder-coated finishes, including black, are available.

A pool fence is a safety barrier that encloses the pool to keep children and pets out. Pool railings and handrails are supports you hold onto at steps and decks. They serve different purposes, and many properties need both.

Usually not. Unlike a pool safety barrier, a simple handrail at the steps generally doesn’t require a permit in most South Florida municipalities. If your project is larger or tied to other pool work, we’ll confirm what applies before we start.

Not if it’s the right grade. We build every rail from 316 marine-grade stainless, made for salt and chlorine exposure. Cheaper 304 or imported rails pit and stain within a season or two near the coast — the grade is what makes the difference. An occasional fresh-water rinse keeps it shining.

It depends on the rail style, how many rails you need, and the deck surface — concrete and pavers anchor differently. A single figure-4 handrail is a quick, affordable job; custom bends and multiple rails cost more. You get an exact quote after a free on-site measurement, with no guesswork.

Yes — most of our work is retrofits on existing pools. We core-drill the anchors into your existing deck, pavers, or bond beam and set them in epoxy, so you get a solid new rail without rebuilding anything. We can also replace a loose or corroded old rail.

Need a safety barrier around the pool, not just a grab rail? That’s a different product — see our glass pool fence page for code-compliant barriers.
