Boca Raton is a demanding place to install a railing. Properties along the coast sit in constant salt exposure, gated communities set their own finish and approval standards, and Palm Beach County wind-load requirements govern anything mounted outdoors. A railing specified from a catalogue rarely survives all three.
Safe Railing designs, fabricates and installs glass and aluminum railing systems from our shop on Glades Road — frameless glass stair and balcony railings, glass pool fences built to Florida’s barrier code, and powder-coated aluminum for exterior stairs and long perimeter runs. Every system is measured on site and specified for the exposure at that specific property.

What Boca Raton Properties Actually Need
Coastal exposure decides the hardware, not the material
Along A1A and the Intracoastal, salt air works on metal continuously. Both glass and aluminum perform well here — the failures we’re called to repair are almost never the panels. They’re the fittings: builder-grade spigots and clamps that pit and weep rust within two or three seasons. On coastal properties, marine-grade stainless hardware is the specification, not an upgrade. We compare the two materials in detail in our guide to glass vs aluminum railings in Florida.
Gated communities approve separately from the county
A large share of Boca Raton work happens inside communities that set their own standards — permitted finishes, glass types, post profiles, work hours and contractor insurance requirements. HOA approval is not the same as code compliance, and a project needs both. We confirm what the association requires before anything is fabricated, because a railing that meets code and fails architectural review still has to come back off.
Pool barriers follow different rules from guardrails
A standard deck railing does not automatically qualify as a pool barrier. Florida’s Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act sets separate requirements for height, gap limits and gate operation, and a frameless glass fence has to be laid out around them — panel gaps, finished height and deck clearance are all measured in place, not assumed from the panel size. If a pool is part of the project, start with our guide to Florida pool fence code requirements.

Permits and Code in Boca Raton
Replacing an existing railing is not automatically permit-exempt, particularly when the mounting surface or structural attachment changes. Requirements differ between the City of Boca Raton and unincorporated Palm Beach County, and condominium and gated-community properties often need association approval on top of the permit.
Exterior railings are also subject to wind-load requirements, and the specification changes with the property — building height, how sheltered the installation is, and what the railing is anchored into. Glass thickness, anchor type and post spacing follow from that, not from the material name.
We confirm the exact requirements with the local building department before fabrication, and the written quote states which approvals are our responsibility and which are yours.
